AMD’s Zen 6

AMD announced new solutions for the datacenter and robotics today consisting of the following product lines:

• 9006-series server processors (Venice) with 8-128 Zen 6 cores or up to 256 Zen 6c cores.
• Venice X processors in 2027 with up to 96 cores and greater than 1GB of L3 cache.
• The X100 series SoC for robotics – a rehash of the existing Strix Halo lineup.
• The Instinct MI455X AI Accelerator.

Additionally, they’re developing a joint platform which will blend AMD solutions with the wafer scale engines from Cerebras. This partnership strikes us as an interesting development depending on how successful the jointly developed solutions become in the marketplace. It makes significantly more sense than the short-lived partnership with Intel to provide Vega-series graphics solutions for Intel’s Next Unit of Compute line. Whether the tandem of AMD and Cerebras will have enough gusto to make a dent in the nVidia moat will be determined over time.
